Classic Mind-Bending Movies

Are you one of those people who are intrigued by mind-bending and head-scratching storylines of movies that play with our minds like a chew toy? These movies either keep us engaged with a plot and then shock us with sudden twists and climaxes or make the story too complex to grasp in the beginning.

Here we have a list of movies that have played with our minds ever since we have watched them. So, without further ado, let us hop on to this mind-twisting roller coaster.

Predestination

This movie is by far one of the most mind-bending movies of all times. Apart from the fact that it involves time traveling, the story offers a lot more to keep us scratching our heads. Moreover, with phenomenal performances from Ethan Hawke and Sarah Snook, the movie reaches a whole new level of perfection.

The story shows a time traveler who is assigned one last mission. Little does he know that this mission is going to be the highlight of his life. Dealing with the threat of a bomb is enough on its own, but there is a lot more in store for him that he is not aware of yet.

The story forces him to face all hardships one could possibly face in a lifetime. He has to go through a journey that forces him to question his fate, love, and even his identity. Even though this is enough to scar a person for life, there is still something ready to give him the biggest jolt he could possible fathom.

Fight Club

This movie is perhaps highlight of this genre. You cannot be a true fan of the mind-bending genre if you have not seen this epic story. Furthermore, remarkable performances by Edward Norton and Brad Pitt are a treat on their own.

The story shows an insomniac (Edward Norton,) who has tried almost everything to cure himself. One day, on a flight, he meets a guy named Tyler Durden (played by Brad Pitt), who runs an underground fight club.

The story follows the two of them and how their “friendship” turns into a strange bond. Check out this epic storyline or you might regret it otherwise.

Inception

Another great epic is the legendary performance by none other than the phenomenal Leonardo DiCaprio. He plays the role of Cobb, a thief, who performs corporate espionage and other small jobs with the help of dream-stealing technology.

This time, he is given the job to do the opposite. He must plant a dream inside his target to make him do what his client wants. The cast is blessed with other prominent actors such as Tom Hardy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and many others.

The Prestige

Magic has always succeeded in playing games with our minds. The suspense of the act and the surprise of the climax have always managed to grab our attention. This film is about this very phenomenon and the tricks it plays on us.

The film is set in London in the 1980s where we see two magicians lock horns with each other after one of them faces a family tragedy. The two of them are now engaged in a never-ending battle of creating the perfect illusion.

The movie is graced with noteworthy performances by the legendary Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale, Michael Caine and many others in supporting roles.

Donnie Darko

If you are talking about mind-twisting thrillers, then you simply cannot ignore Donnie Darko. The movie shows Jake Gyllenhaal as Donnie, a troubled teenager with several psychological problems.

The troubled boy sleepwalks during which he comes across a guy in a rabbit costume, who convinces him that the world is ending and indulges him in criminal activities.

Shutter Island

Leonardo DiCaprio plays the role of a U.S. Marshall in the 1950s by the name of Teddy Daniels. He is accompanied by his new partner Chuck Aule, who is depicted by none other than the remarkable Mark Ruffalo.

The duo travels to a hospital for the criminally insane on an island. They are there to investigate the disappearance of a murderer. Upon arriving at the hospital, they are faced with clues that lead nowhere. The staff and the patients all seem to be in on a big secret, which Teddy is unable to crack.

Source Code

A U.S Army soldier wakes up on a train completely disoriented. He slowly figures out that he is somehow in the body of another person. The soldier, who is depicted by the exceptional Jake Gyllenhaal, is now part of an experimental government program, where he is assigned the task of finding a bomb on the train within 8 minutes.

Even though he is confused as to what is happening to him, the soldier manages to gather his senses and tries to find the bomb. The soldier faces frustrating hurdles during the course of his search.
